Hotfoil Printers and Embossing Units

Hotfoil printing for Batch & Lot Codes is often considered a legacy technology, but is actually still very much alive and kicking, and still the favoured technology of many businesses and industries, including pharmaceuticals and artisan foods.

Fixed Type Impact Printing Systems

In a hot foil printer, a heated typeset (usually of numbers and letters) is pressed firmly against a print ribbon and the item to be printed (the label), producing a clear well-defined print result with the possibility to also emboss the print where required.

The process allows printing on substrates which can prove difficult for other technologies to accomplish, including porous, rough and thick material (e.g. multi-layer labels or booklet labels). It also provides a good quality print with white, silver and gold ribbons, as well as with standard black ribbons.

Printers are generally mounted in an X/Y positioning bracket over the label web, printing in the dwell time between applications, with in-house printer solutions for standard speed applications up to 80 prints per minute, and 3rd party solutions from leading supplier Allen, for print speeds up to 300 print per minute.
